From the foreword:

I feel it is fitting that this book should have its beginnings in Wyre, home to two of Orkney’s major poets, Bishop Bjarni and Edwin Muir. Although the rhymes are in a very different literary tradition, they are of equal importance as part of our heritage.

Some years ago when looking for material to help with teaching dialect to Primary School children, I thought of the rhymes I used to know as a child but could remember only a handful. I found very few in print and so this collection was begun.

Here then is a compilation of rhymes from Orkney and Shetland, some for the first time in print and all of them for the first time together, as far as I can tell.
