The family data was compiled by Thomas Johnstone Brown and his wife Janice Steele Brown with the help of data collecting by Thomas’s sister Margaret Brown Fletcher since her first trip in 1999 and over the past 18 years of several trips to Orkney, Scotland by all.

Description
An effort was made to trace the line of descent from the immigrant ancestor, thus the figure above the name denotes the number of generations removed from the one who first came to Orkney, Scotland. Information has been obtained from numerous sources; town histories, genealogies, cemeteries, town clerk records, family history centers, et cetera. The greatest amount of knowledge has been gathered from descendants who have sent family records and their own family data to bring some lines down to the present time.
