Six of Orkney’s outer North Isles meet each year to contest a variety of sports. Individuals compete in various athletic events; Junior and Senior teams take part in relay, netball and football competitions, and Seniors struggle for Tug o’ War supremacy.
This book, a companion volume to 75 Years of Orkney’s North Isles Sports, details the preparations involved in the hosting of the 75th North Isles Sports on Sanday in June 2025. It also contains comprehensive placings (1st-3rd) lists for every event, and updated tables for All-Round Champions, record holders and the Hall of Fame. One of the chapters record the presence of several of these North Isles athletes in the biennial Island Games, held in Orkney in July 2025.
Roderick Thorne represented his school, universities, and the Achilles Club in high and low hurdles and triple-jump events 60 years ago, and athletics remains a keen interest. He has lived on Sanday for over 40 years and has rarely missed an opportunity to watch the North Isles Sports and enjoy the hospitality provided by the host islands.
