Jim grew up at the time the Churchill Barriers were being constructed and was familiar with the tremendous task taken on by Balfour Beatty and the Italian prisoners. This experience later formed the source of information for this book. It was the first one to be published on the subject and Jim transferred the copyright to the Orkney Wireless Museum, of which he was the founder.
